Joe Deeney hailed his sides mentality following Towns enthralling 4-2 victory over Swansea at The Brache to reach the PDL Cup Final

Goals from Dawid Gawel, Kyron Roberts-Edema and a brace courtesy of Jerome Passley-James ensured the Hatters victory which sets up a tantalising final with AFC Wimbledon.

Speaking at the full-time whistle, Deeney said: “Fair credit to the lads because we knew at the start of the second half that they’d come out with a point to prove. They have some good players; we have to remember that they are a category two side with players that can really hurt you.

“We went from a comfortable 2-0 and then all of a sudden it is 2-2, the momentum is with them and it was a big moment in the game because we re-grouped really well, Jerome doesn’t score often but he got two important goals today.”

With the six goal thriller providing plenty of entertainment, Deeney also urged his side to remain focused on the task at hand, facing a difficult encounter for the PDL Final.

Having lost to Wimbledon already in the EFL Area Final this season, Town will be looking to avenge that result in a bid to claim another piece of silverware, while also keeping one eye on the 10th of March and the visit of Stockport County.

“It’s another final and hopefully we’ll have another final to celebrate after the tie with Stockport, we have to play Wimbledon in the final which will be a really tough test having beat us twice already this season, rightfully so, but for now we’ll enjoy this.”

Joining his lead coach after the match, forward Dawid Gawel spoke about his performance and the aspects of the game he enjoys most.

“We knew that we had to ride the storm and get that third goal,” Gawel explained.

“I always had belief in the boys, we have had so many comebacks this season so I knew we’d get the chance to come back and get the win.

“I love, as Joe says, roughing up the centre-backs. I know if I work hard it will help to create chances for the team.”
