It wasn’t to be for the Under-17s, who missed out on the chance of completing a seasonal treble as they went down in the final of the EFL Youth Alliance National Final against Bolton on Friday.

Joe Deeney’s side trailed 4-0 at the break and were six goals behind when Matthew Takawira scored a quick-fire brace to reduce arrears to 6-2 late on.

However, the Trotters – who were winners of the northern region title – added a seventh in injury time to be crowned overall champions of the Youth Alliance.

Town: Booth, Roberts-Edema, Fox, Trustram, Chigozie, Kwame Anson, Asamoah Jnr, Stitt, Xavier-Jones, Shepherd, Benagr.

Subs: Ioannides, Thomas, Hincapie-Alfonso, Gawel, Takawira.
